Our history
Klimafeld was founded in 2024 by a group of dedicated environmentalists, entrepreneurs and scientists who have recognized the power of hemp as a climate savior. Since then, we have the following:
Mile- & Stepstone’s
- 2023 Pilot project Vienna – Schwechat.
- 2024 Foundation of the association Klimafeld.
- 2025 New cultivation contracts with farmers.
- 2026 Planning the Klimafeld hemp cluster.
The team behind Klimafeld
Klimafeld was founded after careful preparation and first pilot projects in 2024 as a non-profit association.
However, the idea for this arose long before.
The Founders of Klimafeld, Martina Hödl and Gernot Aigner, were both strongly influenced by their upbringing in farming families.
She grew up on a small fruit and wine farm in Styria. He spent his childhood in a Viennese market garden.
Martina, established for many years as a successful entrepreneur in the Viennese real estate industry, and Gernot, with a profound background in the financial sector, share a deep bond: the love of nature, freedom, people and animals as well as the vision of healthy living spacewhich benefits both people and the climate.
In their joint search for sustainable solutions, they came across an extraordinary building material – hemp concrete. Fascinated by the unique properties of this material, they have studied it in detail and discovered the impressive advantages of the hemp plant.
She was particularly impressed by the fact that fibre hemp can not only use fertile fields sustainably, but also binds twice as much CO₂ from the atmosphere as a forest of the same size.
This insight has inspired them so much that they decided to raise awareness about this forward-looking topic and actively contribute to integrating hemp into society as a climate-friendly solution.
