Klimafeld projects

Our projects

By 2027, Klimafeld would like to commission farmers to grow 300 hectares of industrial hemp in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland – the equivalent of 4,500 tonnes of CO₂ compensation per year! Support us as a donor or member and become part of a sustainable movement for a meaningful environment & climate protection.

Projects

Klimafeld has successfully completed its first pilot project around Vienna-Schwechat Airport in 2023 after careful preparation.

Here the first Klimafeld was harvested.

Klimafeld Hemp Harvest 2023 Vienna/Schwechat

The pilot project Klimafeld in 2023 was an important milestone: For the first time, the EU hemp variety Ferimon was cultivated on a field next to Vienna-Schwechat Airport and later successfully harvested. Klimafeld once again demonstrated its vision of domestic hemp cultivation.

Although the summer of 2023 was extremely dry, Ferimon was surprisingly resilient: even with low precipitation, growth remained stable. Chemical pesticides were deliberately omitted to test the natural robustness of this hemp variety under real conditions.

For the harvest, a Claas combine harvester was used, which reliably separated the hemp material. Neither fungal infestation nor pests were detected, confirming the high quality standard of Ferimon. These results prove the suitability of hemp even under challenging climate conditions.

The usable plant residues could then be optimally processed, because the straw presented itself in first-class quality. This success underlines Klimafeld’s pioneering role in domestic hemp cultivation and shows that even unfavorable weather conditions have little effect on the vitality of hemp. In this way, Klimafeld sets a strong example for sustainable agriculture and future-oriented construction methods.

Klimafeld Projects 2025/26

Projects 2025: New cultivation contracts

In 2025, Klimafeld plans to conclude numerous new cultivation contracts with farmers in the Vienna and Lower Austria region for the 2026 season. The aim is to secure a growing area of up to 300 hectares by 2027. Together we focus on sustainable hemp cultivation and active climate protection!

Planning 2026: Austrian Hemp Cluster

Klimafeld plans to set up an organization for a hemp cluster in the Vienna area in 2026: The goal is a plant for processing hemp (fibre processing, hemp concrete, bioplastic).

Klimafeld life-cycle assessment

1 Klimafeld = 10,000 m² Agricultural hemp cultivation area.

  • Living area: Up to 200 m² of hemp concrete building (CO₂-neutral).
  • Drinking straws: About 1 million Hemp plastic straws (biodegradable).
  • edible oil: About 400 liters of hemp oil.
  • Protein: Up to 750 kg of hemp protein powder.

LCA: Sector  >15 tons of CO₂ reduces plastic and conserves fossil resources.

A 10,000m² EU varieties Hanffeld supplies enough hemp concrete for up to 200 m² of living space, tens of thousands of bioplastic drinking straws, around 400 liters of hemp oil and proteins for food. By using instead of conventional raw materials, you save massive CO₂ and save valuable resources.

This is how you promote Climate-positive building, conventional concrete and plastic will be replaced and CO₂ bound. Together with Klimafeld, you are making a strong contribution to sustainability!
