Our mission
One Klimafeld = 10,000 m² (approximately the size of a football pitch) planted with EU-certified hemp varieties. Each Klimafeld removes up to 15 tonnes of CO₂ from the atmosphere — twice as much as a forest absorbs in one year.
One Klimafeld provides enough raw material to build one or two passive houses. Efficient, sustainable and future-ready — hemp creates living spaces that actively support climate protection.
Part of the Klimafeld association’s mission is to plan and establish a hemp cluster in the Vienna and Lower Austria region in 2026.
The Klimafeld association is committed to advancing a carbon-neutral construction and real-estate sector.
A regional circular economy is key to minimising CO₂ emissions and using resources responsibly. Hemp enables materials such as hempcrete, which stores CO₂ and can be produced locally. This means shorter transport routes, fewer emissions and a strong, resilient economy built on sustainability.
Advancing hemp-based plastics is an important step towards a carbon-neutral future. Hemp grows quickly, requires little water and needs no harmful chemicals — ideal conditions for an environmentally responsible material that reduces the impact of conventional plastics.

Klimafeld is a non-profit association that actively reduces CO₂ and promotes sustainable organic building materials through cultivation contracts of industrial hemp with regionally based farmers. Our focus is on climate protection, CO₂ compensation and the development of a circular economy for renewable building materials in Vienna and Lower Austria.
Hemp is a key lever here: it binds large amounts of CO₂ and creates an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional building materials such as concrete.
This is how we finance our mission
Our work is made possible by small and large donations, membership fees and CO₂ compensation subscriptions. With the CO₂ program, private individuals and companies can sustainably reduce their footprint and actively contribute to climate protection.
In addition, we seek funding from Austria, the federal states and the EU and seek partnerships with companies that want to operate in a climate-friendly manner.
