We explain possible uses of industrial hemp and hempcrete. We distinguish research findings, practical experience and questions that still need answers.
About Klimafeld · Think regionally. Grow together.
We are Klimafeld, an association based in Vienna. We connect people who want to advance industrial hemp, natural building materials and regional circular systems.
We believe progress starts when knowledge, commitment and cooperation come together. From the field to the question of how we will build in the future.

Our mission
Our mission is to make knowledge about industrial hemp and hemp building materials accessible, and to bring people from agriculture, construction, research and the wider community into conversation. We aim to support regional value creation and a responsible use of resources.
We explain possible uses of industrial hemp and hempcrete. We distinguish research findings, practical experience and questions that still need answers.
We seek dialogue with farmers, specialists and interested individuals. Regional solutions need different perspectives and people willing to think ahead together.
We work on preparing regional projects. These include a planned bioeconomy cluster in the Römerland Carnuntum region – an initiative under development.
A regional connection
This is how we connect agriculture, processing and construction. The graphic illustrates our vision, not an existing production chain.
A renewable raw material as a starting point for regional initiatives.
Separate fibres and shives and prepare for their practical use.
Develop and assess hempcrete as a potential application.
The people behind Klimafeld
Martina Hödl and Gernot Aigner are behind Klimafeld. Both grew up around agriculture. Their connection to nature and interest in healthy living spaces led them to industrial hemp and hempcrete.
Martina grew up on a fruit and wine farm in Styria and has worked in Vienna’s property sector for many years. Exploring how we can build and live responsibly connects her professional experience with her roots.
Gernot grew up in a market garden in Vienna and brings experience from the financial sector. He is interested in how agricultural raw materials, regional processing and natural building materials can work together.
We take climate, the environment and people’s questions seriously.
We explore natural materials and where they can be used effectively.
We encourage cooperation across regional value chains.
We distinguish goals, plans and steps already completed.
We think beyond individual projects, with future generations in mind.
Pilot cultivation in the Vienna–Schwechat area provides a starting point for the initiative.
The idea develops into the Klimafeld association, based in Vienna.
Our focus is on preparing a bioeconomy cluster in the Römerland Carnuntum region.
In planning
The plan is to process industrial hemp regionally and produce hemp building materials. The first phase focuses on separating hemp straw into fibres and shives, and on producing hempcrete. Further fibre processing is envisaged for a later phase.
The initiative is in the planning stage. Location, financing, equipment and implementation steps still need to be coordinated. This does not imply that industrial production is already operating or that a specific amount of CO₂ savings has been achieved.
Explore our projects →Your contribution supports the work of the Klimafeld association, including sharing knowledge, connecting people and preparing our initiatives. Membership is not an investment in a production facility and does not promise a financial return.
Membership or a donation is not a purchase of certified carbon credits. How much CO₂ a specific initiative avoids or stores over time must be assessed from its actual implementation and a transparent accounting method.
You can become a member, contribute professional expertise or a cooperation idea, or ask us a question. Dialogue between agriculture, material development, planning and construction practice is especially valuable.
