What we are working towards
In the Vienna and Römerland Carnuntum region, we are developing a project that connects agricultural raw materials with processing and use. The cluster is at the planning stage. Industrial production has not started.
01 · CURRENT FOCUS
Phase 1 combines mechanical processing of hemp straw with planned hempcrete production. Decortication separates the fibres from the woody shives. These material streams provide the basis for further use.
Technology, product quality and commercial viability need to be aligned.
02 · FUTURE DEVELOPMENT
Further fibre refinement and processing are envisaged as a second development phase. The applications ultimately pursued will depend on material quality, demand and viable cooperation.
Phase 2 is a future development option, not an operating production unit.
A clear view of progress
Potential sites are being assessed. Infrastructure, permits, logistics and suitability for operation need to align. A final location has not yet been selected.
Equipment concepts and budget quotations support the planning process. They do not constitute machinery orders. Product requirements and quality validation are being developed further.
Expansion of cultivation will be coordinated with processing capacity. No seed requirement is currently planned for 2027; potential demand is being considered for 2028 at the earliest. Acreage, varieties and quantities are not yet committed.
On 20 October 2026, aws confirmed the basic eligibility of investments in hemp processing for funding. This is an important clarification. It is not a project-specific grant approval, and overall financing has not yet been secured.
There is no confirmed production start date. The funding eligibility of downstream hempcrete production also requires separate clarification.
Our beginning · 2023
In 2023, Klimafeld carried out a pilot project near Vienna Airport in Schwechat. The Ferimon variety was grown and the hemp seed harvest documented. Our original photographs show this first practical step.
The experience gained from cultivation and harvest informs our ongoing planning. A pilot project does not replace assessments of future raw material quality, supply volumes or industrial processing.

Potential needs evidence
Our aim is to develop regional material cycles and put renewable resources to good use. The climate benefit of a specific building material needs to be assessed across its life cycle – including cultivation, processing, binders, transport and end of life.
We therefore do not promise a fixed CO₂ saving per hectare or a guaranteed number of houses from one field. CO₂ uptake during plant growth is not automatically a certified carbon offset.

Develop the location, raw material supply and sales plans with suitable partners.
Bring together technology, product validation, permits and financing before an investment decision.
